When did preschool become such a racket??? I need to sign my three year old son up for preschool and have discovered it’s a near impossibility, since I didn’t get him on a waiting list when he was born. I actually have to dream a little dream and enter a lottery system now for most places, oh I hope I win, I hope I win. Not to mention the fact that you practically have to take out a home loan to pay for it – what the . . . ? All of this panic to occupy four hours a week of a three year old’s time, huh.
And the rules. There is typically at least a two page document that you are required to read and sign, accepting all the RULES of the school. NO CANDY, SUGAR or JUNK FOOD of any kind. NO GOODY BAGS. NO PENCILS. (no pencils at school?) NO EARLY DROP OFF. NO LATE PICKUP ($1 per minute if you’re late because the thousand dollars a month you’re paying doesn’t buy you a minute more) DOCTOR’s CERTIFICATE (well sure, for your three year old physical. You can’t just bring a copy of immunizations to date, oh no.) etc. etc. etc.
It begs the question, How did any of us accomplish anything in life since we didn’t attend school until kindergarten or even, gasp, FIRST GRADE?
Cathy – if you’re still looking for a career path – open a PRESCHOOL!! You did say you wanted to mentor a child right? 🙂
